Doing taxes? US rules (IRS Rev. Rul. 2019-24) treat coins from a hard fork as income at their fair market value when you gained control of them. Mined coins are income at fair market value when received. Look up your date below, or use the tax helper to build a Koinly or CoinTracker import file.

Each day includes price_usd (the reference rate), open_usd, high_usd, low_usd, close_usd, volume_usd, the markets used with their own values, any markets dropped as outliers, and the method version.

Methodology (xbt.live-ref-v1)

  1. Markets. Every XBT market with usable public data: NeoxEX XBT/USDC, XBT/USDT and XBT/BTC (hourly candles), plus NonKYC BTCB2/USDT (15-minute price snapshots taken by this site, from the day we began recording).
  2. Per-market daily price. A volume-weighted average price (VWAP) over the UTC day from hourly candles, or a time-weighted average of snapshots where candles aren't available. The XBT/BTC market is converted to USD hour by hour using Coinbase BTC-USD. USDC and USDT are counted at $1.
  3. Outliers. When 3 or more markets report, any market more than 15% away from the median is dropped and listed.
  4. Reference price. The median of the remaining markets' daily prices. Open, high, low and close are the medians of the markets' values.
  5. Finality. Each day is calculated once, about an hour after 00:00 UTC, and never revised. If the method changes, the version name changes and old days keep their original values.

Before September 1, 2026 there is no reference price. The chain split at block 961,632 on about August 8, 2026, but no exchange listed XBT until September 1, 2026, so there was no market price before then.

XBT trades on a few small exchanges with thin order books. Prices can differ a lot between markets and move fast. The reference rate reduces the effect of any one market but can't create liquidity that isn't there.
