Thinking about buying the XBT dip? Five things to know first
XBT is around $645 after three sharp drops in two days, with a low near $500 on NonKYC Monday evening. That's about 64% below its $1,799 high. If you're thinking about buying the dip, here's what the short history says, and how people who buy dips in thin markets usually go about it. This isn't a call on where price goes next.
1. Big dips are normal here
XBT has already fallen 20% or more from a peak three times since trading opened Sept 1, including an 86% crash from $1,095 to $154 in a week (the full history). It came back from all three. That's history, not a promise. The same thin market that made those rebounds fast can make the next drop deeper.

2. Know what's coming
- Oct 17: difficulty rises about 16%. Miners earn less per machine, and some may sell more to cover costs.
- From about Oct 30: locked mining rewards start unlocking, about 450 XBT a day for roughly 45 days. Some of that will be sold. Countdown.
Some buyers wait to see how the market absorbs that supply. Others think it's already priced in. Either way, don't be surprised by it.
3. Buy in pieces, not all at once
In a market that can swing 15% in an hour, many people split a buy into smaller amounts over days or weeks (dollar-cost averaging). You give up the chance of nailing the exact bottom in exchange for not betting everything on one candle.
4. Use limit orders, and compare exchanges
A market order fills at whatever the book offers, which on XBT can be far from the last price. Set a limit order at your price. Check both NeoxEX and NonKYC first; they've been about 4% apart.
5. Size it so a 50% drop doesn't hurt you
