What drove it
The move came in steps through the day rather than one spike. Price held in the mid $420s to $440s through Saturday afternoon, climbed above $450 overnight, then pushed through $475 in the morning and set new daily highs into midday. We found no single headline behind it. Order books on XBT markets are still thin, so steady buying can move price quickly in either direction.
On the mining side
Over the past 7 days, AlphaPool found 33.7% of blocks and Lazarus 25.5%. No single pool is near 51%, but the top two together are close to 60%. Live pool shares are on the home page, and hashrate against price is on the new hashrate chart.
What to watch next
Mining rewards from blocks 973,440 to 979,920 are locked. They start unlocking at block 979,920, around early November, at roughly 450 XBT a day for 45 days, about 20,250 XBT in total. That is new supply miners have not been able to sell yet. Compare it with daily volume, about 1,600 XBT today, to judge how much it could weigh on price. Live countdown on the unlock page.
