Solo vs. a pool
In a pool you get a steady share of every block your pool finds. Solo, you get nothing until you hit, then the whole block. Over a long time the average is the same, minus fees, but solo swings wildly: you can go a year with nothing or hit twice in a month. On XBT, many pools pay miners straight from the block's coinbase, so pool payouts carry the same 180-day lock as a solo block. Compare pools, fees and solo options.
How it's calculated
- Your share = your hash rate ÷ network hash rate.
- Chance in a period = 1 − e^(−share × blocks in the period). Blocks per day come from the live block pace.
- Expected wait = 1 ÷ (share × blocks per day). It's an average: luck can make it much shorter or longer.
- Block reward = 3.125 XBT subsidy plus recent average fees, locked 25,920 blocks (about 180 days) before it can be spent.
- Assumes today's network hash rate. If it grows, your odds shrink.
